Our Class 7 B had the opportunity to undertake an outreach visit to the
Samuha Foundation, an orphanage for boys. This visit proved to be one of
the most enriching and meaningful experiences of our academic year. We
departed from school at 10:35 a.m. and arrived at the foundation by 11:20
a.m. Once we reached, we were escorted to the third-floor hall, where the
programme for the day had been arranged. Before the events began, we
were informed that the foundation supports 55 boys, studying from Grade 3
to Grade 10, who live and learn under the guidance of the trust.
After a short wait, the boys entered the hall, filling the atmosphere with
warmth and enthusiasm. Their confidence, friendliness, and cheerful
expressions immediately made us feel welcomed. Observing their positive
attitude despite the challenges in their lives made us feel truly humbled and
grateful for the opportunities we often take for granted. Our class teacher,
Miss Anjana, along with our co-class teacher, Miss Sophia, commenced the
programme by addressing the boys with kindness and encouragement.
Following the introduction, our class presented a dance performance, which
was then followed by a group song. In response, the boys performed an
outstanding dance for us. The highlight of their performance was the
formation of a human pyramid, where they balanced and stood on top of one
another with remarkable coordination and confidence. Their teamwork,
discipline, and skill left us genuinely impressed.
After the performances, my class teacher asked my friend and me to deliver
the vote of thanks. It was a privilege to speak on behalf of our class. We
expressed our sincere gratitude to our Principal,
Sister Alpana, for supporting and approving this outreach initiative. We also
thanked Abhimanyu Sir from the trust for graciously welcoming us and
allowing us to spend time with the boys.
Towards the end of our visit, the staff guided us to see the boys’ living spaces.
We observed their neatly arranged bunk beds and the simple, well-organised
rooms where they reside. This visit gave us a deeper understanding of their
daily routines and the disciplined environment in which they live.
We left the foundation at 12:40 a.m. and returned to school by 1:15 p.m. This
outreach visit taught us empathy, gratitude, and the importance of giving back
to society. It is an experience that will remain in my memory for a long time.
