Outreach Programme – Std. IX C

As part of our school’s outreach initiative, we, the students of IX ‘C’ from Sophia High School, visited Mercy Charitable Trust, an orphanage in Bangalore, on 2nd August, 2025. The aim of our visit was to engage with the children and bring joy through interaction and shared experiences.

Located in Benson Town and home to twenty-two children, the small blue house was filled with love, care, and support. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by the vibrant smiles of the children. The energetic children introduced themselves, sharing their names and ages. Most of them study in standards four and five, while a few are younger or older, with some even pursuing their education in PUC. They spoke eagerly of their dreams, to become businessmen, army personnel, pilots, doctors, lawyers, and engineers.

Together, we all sang several songs, which included, patriotic Indian songs, and heartfelt hymns. After a lively dance presented by our classmates, the children of Mercy Charitable Trust amazed us with their own stellar dance moves to trending songs. We also had the joy of wishing a child whose birthday coincided with the date of our visit. The memory of their joy as we interacted will stay with us for a long time, reminding us how simple yet powerful the impact of kindness and connection can be.

Miss Mercy, a dedicated volunteer, graciously briefed us about the organization. Her words, “No one can harm you if you are eager to do good”, resonated deeply with each of us. She shared stories of how the children were rescued from difficult circumstances and are now being given a chance to heal, grow, and thrive.

The orphanage was founded by Miss Tayamma, a social worker with nearly three decades of service. Her dream was to provide love, care, and a sense of belonging to orphans, a dream that has become a living reality. Today, Mercy Charitable Trust is not just a shelter but a home, and Miss Tayamma is more than a founder, she is a mother to all.

The visit left a lasting impression on us. It not only opened our eyes to the resilience and hope of these children but also inspired us to appreciate what we have and to become channels of sharing, caring and selfless service to humanity to make a positive difference in the world.
